About the Retreat

Join Helen for this nurturing retreat in the beautiful location of ecoYoga in Scotland.
Whatever your level of experience, this retreat will be an opportunity to enjoy the time and space to explore different aspects of yoga practice, including movement, breath awareness, simple meditation techniques and a supportive restorative practice. As well as the opportunity to be immersed in the stunning tranquil natural environment, whether that means walking by the loch or in the woods, bathing by a waterfall or simply sitting and being still.

We will seek to return to the simplicity of the practice, to be intimately connected to our breath, to tune in to how our body wants to move (or rest) and notice how we can begin to cultivate a focussed mind.

The Practice:

Each day the morning sessions will begin with a short guided breath awareness practice, followed by a guided Ashtanga self practice class in which Helen will support each person with their individual practice. If you are a complete beginner or new to Ashtanga self practice, there will be a separate introductory class for the first 2 days so that you can then join the morning self practice sessions for the rest of the retreat.

The afternoon sessions: ‘Finding Balance’

On the Friday, Saturday and Sunday we will come together for 3 afternoon sessions to explore techniques including an exploration of foundational postures and the importance of these in cultivating strength and stability. Woven through each of these sessions will also be an introduction to somatic movement and restorative practice.There will also be an opportunity for discussion about anything that comes up during the retreat.

The price shown comprises the accommodation cost (£495.00) plus the yoga teacher’s fee (£100.00). This is the total cost of your retreat. When you book this retreat you pay only for the accommodation and you pay the yoga teacher separately when you arrive at EcoYoga.

More about Helen

Helen McCabe is a practitioner and teacher of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, based in the beautiful Dorset countryside(UK), where she lives with her family. She founded and directs ‘Yoga at the Space’. There she runs the weekly assisted self-practice programme as well as teaching beginners’ courses, mentoring new teachers and teaching pre-natal Yoga. She runs regular retreats and workshops both in her studio and internationally.

She started practicing yoga in 1991 when she was working in the film industry and had just had her first daughter. It has played a major part in her life ever since. Helen has studied for many years with John Scott and is a JSY senior teacher as well as a registered Senior Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance Professionals. She has also had the privilege of studying with a number of fantastic teachers including Lucy Crawford, David Keil and Dena Kingsberg amongst others and continues to be a student of this amazing practice.

Helen teaches with a gentle, inclusive and incredibly encouraging approach and is passionate about supporting students to connect to the energetic and meditative aspects of the practice of yoga so that they can cultivate a healing and resourcing self practice.

Accomodation:

The ecoYoga Centre has 13 bedrooms. The main accommodation area has ten bedrooms with luxurious super kingsized beds, a sofa and table in a sunny windowed lobby, or views to the river, each has its own toilet and sink. The stone bothy has three bedrooms with double beds and a secret hideaway room with two kids beds in. When needed the main house has a further two doubles and a kids room with bunk beds.

There is also a yurt which accommodates three single beds in a shared space (each bed has a privacy curtain). The yurt is available for female guests only.

Facilities:

The ecoYoga Centre has several bathing areas and showers to choose from. Inspired by the Japanese tradition of the ‘Sento’ or public bathing house you can soak in our natural wooden hot tubs in the Dome, or choose some hideaway bathing spots in the forest or river bank.

The Yoga Studio:

The glazed studio, overlooking the gorge of the River Liever, will be your space to practice each day. The 60sqm shala is purpose built with under floor heating and a very calming ambience. Your body can melt into the warmth of the floor during Savasana (deep relaxation at the end of a Yoga practice) whilst the mind is gently soothed by the sounds of the nearby waterfalls.
